“There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal…it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit...” C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

The person is a living embodiment of mystery—coming from somewhere else and going somewhere hereafter; yet here now, for a moment.

Religion and philosophy give us hints into who we are, but the journey of the soul is still obscure to us, in the land of the living.

It’s as if our consciousness takes a body and enters this plane, leaving non-existence and entering into existence. It sounds silly to speak like this—how can one speak of mystery?

We are an embodied sacredness. When one person exits this life, we weep. Something special has left us. When a child is born, we rejoice. From non-existence, a being entered into our world.

We come from somewhere and go somewhere else. Who are we?
